Her Desiate is Consumslated

The question presented: How cool can a $200 a month RV park be?
The answer: Extremely.

What started as a week (or so) in New Braunfels, Texas, ended up as almost two months in one of the coolest towns we have stayed. Damien and Michelle called us up when we were leaving Florida and said they had payed for a month at an RV park in New Braunfels. It was close to several of their upcoming shows, so they thought they would just stay there for a month and commute to their weekend shows. Not having anything really planned out, we told them we would stop in and hang out with them for a bit. haha - yea, a bit. After almost two months, we had made some great friends, had great times, and found out that we loved the Comal River.

We have been to many places in our adventures, but never have we been to a place that we met so many cool people, and built friendships like we did in NewB. Having Damien and Michelle was key to this - they are just as outgoing and adventurous as we are (or try to be), and the town opened their arms wide to the four of us foreigners.

Fun With Relays

I have always been a big fan of the RV Sani-Con waste system. I'm not sure I would sing from the hills that I am a fan of the pooper pump, but why not. It is a great system, and I do not miss the Stinky Slinky one bit! The Sani-Con allows us to run a 1 ½" line to the sewer so it doesn't look bad, no rinsing and flushing of the big fat Slinky, and I don't have to store The Beast while on the road.

The system has always worked great for me (save the time I left the little green cap on the end and had to do a little "clean up on isle 6"), and I wouldn't be without one. However, I have had MUCH problem with the relay that controls the pump. The relay is used between the power switch and the Sani-Con and is suppose to send power to the pump when the switch is thrown. After about six months of use, the relay started acting up, and emptying the tanks became a challenge. Thus began - Fun With Relays.

Snowbirds

The first week of the new year has evaporated, and it felt like it just wizzed by. Will this be indicative of the new year? Will this one move faster than the last? Everyone tells me that as you get older, time moves by faster. I tend to agree with that, but I am pretty sure it is just because the older you get, the more stuff you have to do. Stuff to do fills in all of the spaces that use to be downtime when we were younger. The downtime is what makes the time move slow.

Not a Snowbird

The first week passing into the new year has special meaning in south Florida. The turn of the year is like the state of Florida goes to Northern People Buffet, and fills up on people. By the end of the first week, the state wishes it would have worn stretchy pants.

A Measurement of Time

As much of a geek that I am, it is surprising how uninterested I am in my cell phone. The only reason it is being mentioned is because that span of time, that sometimes seems forever, has reached its end, and renewal is upon us.

I got a new cell phone.

I think for normal people, that two years takes forever. For others, the cell phone contract is a span of time that will never occur because they trade their phones in so often that they owe 14 years to cover that crappy phone they have now. For me, those two years go by in a blur, and I usually get a new phone because I am at the Verizon kiosk getting a new headset or something.

My Florida Is Back

I didn't have to suffer through the arctic chill for too long. Florida came back today - the winds died down, and the chill left the air. The best part was that it was nice enough to stand out back and enjoy another amazing sunset.

But today was about more than warmth and nice sunsets - today was Malabar's first birthday! I think Ang wanted to invite the other little doggie neighbors over, maybe rent one of those blow-up jumpy houses, themed party hats and such, but we settled on celebrating with a blog entry :)

Where Did Florida Go?

I want my Florida back! I had to wear sweats today :( Last night it turned cold. Wind blowing, rain drops, coldness. There is some kind of wrong mixed in there.

It could be because I wasted an entire day yesterday. Maybe the Weather Gads were paying me back for such an unproductive day. I had every intention of wasting the day away by doing some work, working on a couple of my other sites that are in development, and maybe having a beer or two. It didn't happen. Instead, I had to rescue my DirecTV dish that blew over.

Its Been A Year! (Already!)

Yesterday, Ang and I celebrated our first full year as fulltimers! A full year. 12 months. 365 days... of living in a 400 square foot, diesel huffing, climate controlled, fully connected, comfortable, rolling home. A year without a house/property tax payment. A year of being liberated from a household of stuff. A year of being with the one I love, meeting the greatest people, and seeing some of this beautiful country of ours.

Visiting my granddaughter in Colorado

It has been a full year, and quite a busy one. I think a full summary would take way too much time and space, so I thought I would summarize in pictures. Click to see where the year went...

A Different Kind of Sun and Fun

Five weeks at Sun N Fun. Five weeks. When you are use to moving every two weeks or so, five weeks feels like licking your way all the way down to the tootsie roll center when you are use to two licks and a full bite.

Sun N Fun was just fine. We met a lot of really cool people, did lots of things in the area, effortlessly got our mail, and found new and exciting ways to enjoy pool-side cheeseburgers and beers. It was also a great place to try out my new Dri Wash N Guard waterless car wash product, because the trees were constantly crying sap all over our vehicles.

We left Sun N Fun on Monday morning and drove the excruciating 45 minutes to Ft. Desoto County Park, just outside of St. Petersburg. Last year we drove through the park at the suggestion of Damien and Michelle, and we knew we had to stay here. We ended up making reservations way in advance. There is a very good reason this place fills up so fast...

Beauty And The Geek

Halloween is that special day that you get to dress up as whatever your fantasies desire. There are endless options as to what you can be, limited only by one's imagination. Is it odd when two people dress up as what they are normally? Yea, odd.

Ang and I went to the Sun N Fun Halloween party on Wednesday night as the Beauty and the Geek. Was not a real stretch for us, character wise, but when you live in a 400 square foot home on wheels, a bin of costumes is not a real high priority. So, we were forced to simply stretch reality some. It worked for us.

We Are Now Some of "Those People"

Those People are the folks we talk about when the topic of RVers comes up. Those People are the ones that have great disdain for the cold. Those People are the that run to the south when the mercury drops below 60°. We are now, officially, some of Those People.

Last leg of the trip - Livingston to Sarasota

We arrived in Sarasota on Sunday, after a fantastic drive across the US. The more I drive, the more I am in awe of the beauty of this country. We have both found new appreciation for the desert, the hill country of Texas, the swamp land of Louisiana and Mississippi. The flatness and the heat and the humidity and the large bugs of Florida. We love driving, but we love arriving just a bit more.
