Cleaning, Excavating, and a Side of Tejano Music

As an FYI, here are a few things that are better suited to do when it is NOT in the triple digits: tearing apart one's wet bay, washing a 40' motorhome, excavating a very sloped back yard for an above ground pool. That ends up being the Sweat Trifecta.

Warning! Cute granddaughter picture!!

Peytyn is looking like she helped me with my weekend activities, but the above picture is just a cheap ploy to get you interested to see if there are any more cute pictures on the click. Sorry, there aren't - just more of me whining about the heat...

[More:]

I did get a lot done this weekend, in preparation of our departure back to the west coast. The conundrum with getting things done on the weekend is that waking up early is for the week days, not the weekend. However, if one waits too long to get going out here, the sun will melt you into the asphalt by noon. Not fair.

Saturday was one of those days. I would have been happy sitting all day in my nice, comfy chair, under the one working A/C we have. However, the need to get my new tank level gauges working was overly necessitated by the rising level of fluid in the tanks. Our wonderful Carny Campsite has electric and water connections, but now sewer connection. We have done a good job this week - showering in the neighboring facility, watching our dish washing, etc. Still, a week is a long time for us to go without dumping. Trying to get one more day our of our tanks, I needed to be able to see the level of the tanks - not the general guess the stock gauges give.

I had installed the gauge sensors when we were in California, but never tracked down some issues I was having. Saturday morning saw me racing against the sun, tearing the wet bay completely apart - again - to find the wiring gremlins. As a bonus, there was a big company picnic set up over in the picnic area across from us with a DJ!! Sweet - digging around my waste water tanks with amplified Tejano music all morning. Actually, all day.

Ended up being a grounding issue with the wiring I ran. Should have figured it out during the original install, but it was much more fun doing it this way. The sun was running up the other side of the coach, across the top, and creeping down my side while I was trying to get things figured out. By the time I got things buttoned up, the sun was reaching down my plumber's crack as I was putting in the last screws.

The rest of the day consisted of us trying to escape the heat, escape the amplified spanish version of Achy Breaky Heart, and escaping doing what we really needed to do. We lost out on all accounts. I organized the basement, did some small repairs, messed with my solar project. Best part of the day was meeting up with Zach and Arin and Peytyn for some dinner and a shuffle around the Colorado Mills mall for the afternoon.

Today I had the same issue - having to get up and do stuff before the sun got too hot. Today's Wild Hair Project - wash the RV. WTH? Why would I possibly want to do this? Dunno, but I did. Took a couple of hours, but got started at about 7am, so the heat was bearable. Also took some wax to the rear street side slide where I has some branch scrapes. That was fun and games until noon when Dustin calls and says "hey dad - I have a truck full of dirt. Want to come help dig out the pool?". Yesssssssss.

As I drove over to Dust and Misty's place, the thermometer on my Jeep read only 103 degrees. I KNEW it would be cooler in his back yard. I was wrong. But, we had a good time. It was cool hanging out with Dust, even though it meant moving a ton of dirt around his back yard.

We made a good dent, but the heat won. I was perspiring like a salty sprinkler that was stuck on high, and I think Dust felt sorry for me. We had a late lunch and I was on my way.

Playing in the dirt with my son was the best part of my day.
