How Much Horsepower Do I Need?

A common question in the "I'm buying a new RV" scene. There was a discussion about this on the rv.net forums and someone posted a spreadsheet that does the calculations needed to determine how much horsepower is needed to move a mass (vehicle and trailer) up a grade at a certain speed. I thought the Excel spreadsheet worked well, but thought it would be cooler as a web application.

I kind of have a thing with calculators like this. I have done quite a few for Cisco, but they are all pretty boring - ROI calculators of different sorts, equipment configuration tools - things of this nature. But, because I enjoy doing them, I have built a couple that are on this site.

[More:]

When we were shopping for an '07 Tiffen Phaeton, I gained possession of an ordering sheet. I used that to create a pricing calculator, as well as a discount and payment calculator. After finishing that one, someone gave me a similar sheet for the Allegro Bus, which I did the same with.

Good times.

So, when this spreadsheet came along, my brain immediately rendered the code needed to make the calculator work. You, too, can now have fun with your very own Horsepower Estimator.

Just in cause you ever wondered how much it would take to move your mass up the hill :)
