Angie and I are RVing fulltime in our 2006 Monaco Knight 40PLQ. I work full time as a web programmer, and Ang works full time taking care of me :-). Thanks for reading our stuff.
I use to be able to drive a couple of days and not feel it (too much). That has all changed. I feel it now.
Today we arrived at Buckhorn Lake RV Park in Kerrville, Texas. We left Brenda, Arizona, yesterday around 1:00 in the afternoon, after a morning of finishing up some work stuff. I am pretty sure most of the problem with my tiredness was that we crossed two time zones in just a few hours, so it made my 2:00am stop actually 4am. In theory, I only drove until 2am, but my brain knew that it was now 4 because of our new location in the Central Time Zone.
The drive was very pleasant. We took I-10 the entire way (all 1040 miles), except for the bypass down to I-8 to bypass Phoenix. I-10 was actually very pleasant - smooth and pretty uneventful. There is a lot of truck traffic, but it is kind of fun trying to figure out what is on the flatbeds that are all tarped up. They all look like space capsules or rockets or nuclear waste containers, but I am sure they are probably more like pipe fittings and other parts heading for a Home Depot near you.
Before leaving Blackrock RV in Brenda, AZ, Ang and I were able to get a couple of evenings of off-roading in. After work a couple of days, we took off in the Jeep to some BLM land that is located behind the RV park. They even have access gates from the RV park that allow easy entrance to the land. We had a blast. The trails/roads were mostly used by quads, but we found plenty of places to explore.
The trails were not too challenging, but allowed us to venture back into the desert and explore some of the area. There were some dried creek beds that pretty beat up, so those were fun. The Jeep did great job - hardly a grunt out of her. We would drive, stop for a few pictures, drive some more. Good times.
It was sad to leave Brenda (especially knowing the long drive ahead), as we were really enjoying ourselves there. I am sure we will be back. Seems like the perfect place to be during the Quartzsite madness during January and February, although we won't make it back there till later.
We are heading "home" tomorrow to Livingston, TX, to get some things squared away before heading off to Florida. Lots of driving left, but I think the longest leg is behind us now. Our reservations in Florida start a week from tomorrow, and we are looking forward to being out there.
Just hope these old bones can get there without whining too much.
