The Turnip - Pace Arrow Update #2

I spent a fair amount of time this last weekend addressing issues with the Pace Arrow.
Jillian has named my motorhome "The Turnip" I think it's sticking. Most of the 12V lighting is missing from the cabin, replaced with 120V florescent fixtures. I now know why. The wiring for these various fixtures (3 in all, 2 in the cabin and one in the bathroom) was dead. I found a nest of cut 12V wires in the cabinet. I traced and hooked up all but one set of wires and installed new 12V fixtures. The shower had a fan/waterproof light fixture that has disintegrated. I got the switches and wiring sorted and located the replacement fixture at Camping World ($90). A project for a later date.

[More:]

I repaired the fresh water tank with a cool compression fitting designed for the exact problem my tank had. I also replaced the crumbling drain petcock on the tank.

The furnace/thermostat work perfectly.

I had a peek at the toilet and found that the filler/flush pedal was rusted stuck. I actually bent the pedal by trying to operate it. I installed a new Thetford china bowl toilet that is unspoiled by human ass (for the time being)

The last issue on the interior is the 12V system. When plugged into shore power the converter cranks 12V perfectly. All fixtures light up. Tank sensors work, propane level indicator works, etc.
When I unplug 120VAC, no love. No 12V. The charge LED on the converter does not light. If it was charging it would be lit up solid. If battery was fully charged it would light up and blink. No LED means it's not charging. The house battery has 12.9V so I should get something. It was way late by the time I found this so I didn't get a chance to investigate.

It was time to deliver the Turnip to Milpitas RV storage.

I started her right up but didn't let her warm up enough and stalled her about 20 feet out of my parking spot. Then, no crank. WTF? New battery. Checked voltage 13.1V measured. HMMMMM
I tugged at the positive cable and it was loose in the clamp. The post clamp was tight but the cable clamp was loose. I doubled over the cable and re-clamped the cable. The Turnip started right up.

On the way to the storage I was able to cruise at 60+MPH and the temp was hovering at the top end of the "H" range. I estimate 210-220 degrees. It did not overheat but since I was cruising at a decent pace, I feel its running too hot. If I get on a steep grade over the Sierra's (which is a given) I will surely overheat.

I have an appointment at Leales RV repair in San Jose for Friday. I am declaring war on my cooling system. I will pop for a new extreme duty radiator. If it needs a water pump, I have found a Summit Racing aluminum RV unit for $79. Also, many uninformed mechanics put standard 440 thermostats into RV's. These standard t'stats have 1/3 the flow of the RV units. I figure I need about 15-20 degrees reduction.

I'll have them look at the 12V problem as well as change the oil, tranny fluid, and differential fluid.

It is amazing how much on this rig actually works well.

I am very pleased
